Service and Loan

Use of the library:

Our library is accessible to the public, and also its use is open to all interested persons. There are four workstations, several reading chairs, lockers as well as one computer which enables visitors to work and do research. Our visitors have the possibility to take a break in the café on the premises during their visits to the library.

Media loan and interlibrary loan:

Our library is a storage library which means that we pick out the desired media for you. In order to avoid long waiting times for large orders, we advise our users to order the desired media beforehand through our catalogue or to provide us with a list of desired media. Thus, we can provide the media of interest for inspection in the reading room at the agreed date.

Most of our media can be borrowed. As a registration is needed to borrow media from our library, we kindly ask you to carry a valid identity card with you when visiting our library. The use of our library, including media loans, is free of charge.

The mikado library is connected with the ecclesiastical loan system, so that media can also be borrowed from diocesan libraries or parish libraries via interlibrary loan.

You can do an online user registration for the library through our catalogue. Via your user account, you can then borrow books and order photocopies of essays. We make all ordered media available for collection in our library, while photocopies are provided against a fee. Library users have the option to make a reservation for borrowed media.

The regular loan period for all media is four weeks, and it can be extended up to twice via the user account in case that no reservation has been made for the item in question. If a valid e-mail address is available, an information on the end of the loan period and reminders regarding the media return are automatically transmitted to the user with the confirmation of the effected media loan. The library users can constantly check their accounts for the respective end of the loan period.

Library users also have the option to make acquisition suggestions, research inquiries or other suggestions and hints via their user accounts or directly via e-mail.

Picture library and archive:

During the opening hours of the library, also the picture library is open. Nevertheless we recommend a previous notification for a visit to the picture library. You can search for motives via the image and media data base. After clarification of the image rights, it is possible to order images in high resolution for further use.

In our archive, after previously fixing an appointment, library users have the possibility to study archive records. An inventory on site provides an overview of the media collections.
